(The following was part of an answer given to a question in the “Ask Alim” section on the website www.nanima.co.za)
It is always very difficult to decide if one should inform one spouse that the other is cheating, especially if you know one or both the spouses.
A key point to remember is that whatever the course of action, the intention should be to act in the best interests of both the innocent and guilty spouse rather then be driven by the desire to expose. Many a time people love to expose infidelity, simply because they would love to sit back and watch the drama unfold, take revenge against the guilty spouse or even take pleasure in the pain of the innocent spouse.
This is obviously incorrect! Rather the motivation should be to try your best to assist both spouses by considering the following: Continue reading →

SHA`BAAN AND THE COMING OF RAMADAAN
By Hazrat Maulana Yunus Patel Saheb (RA)
The phrase, ‘It’s in the air’ alludes to the general feeling or expectation of something to happen in the near future or something which is already present or prevailing.
For the Muslim who reaches the months of Rajab and Sha`baan, the presence of Ramadaan is keenly sensed and felt. There is anticipation and expectation Continue reading →
There is an incident related of a Sahabi (RA), who, on coming across the verse :
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَآئِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ قف
‘Every soul shall taste of death.’
…read it so many times that a voice was finally heard saying: ‘Your recitation has already caused the death of 4 Jinn.’
In Arabic, the word, ‘zaa`iqa’ means ‘to taste’. Continue reading →

My Dear brothers & sisters in Islam
Let me first pray that Allah almighty guide me first & foremost, then the rest of the ummah; Insha Allah!
I have been quite fazed by the willingness our muslim society has taken towards online social networking. Before judging me, please read what I have to say and by all means thereafter, you may voice your thoughts.
In my line of work (Social worker), I have recently come across numerous cases where relationships have taken strain, ultimately reaching the extent of total disentigration i.e. couples divorcing. It is sad and a tremendous concern that both males and females (single adults / teenagers as well as married couples), approach social networking with such light heartedness. Continue reading →
My generation grew up at a time when colonial hang up was at its peak.
Our older generation had been slaves and had a huge inferiority
complex of the British. The school I went to was similar to all elite
schools in Pakistan.
Despite gaining independence, they were, and still are, producing
replicas of public schoolboys rather than Pakistanis.I read
Shakespeare, which was fine, but no Allama Iqbal – the national poet
of Pakistan. The class on Islamic studies was not taken seriously, and
when I left school I was considered among the elite of the country
because I could speak English and wore Western clothes.
Despite periodically shouting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in school
functions, I considered my own culture backward and religion outdated.
Among our group if any one talked about religion, prayed or kept a
beard he was immediately branded a Mullah. Continue reading →

Their prayers were shortly answered. Continue reading →
All hell broke loose last Tues., 17th Jan. 2012, when the hard-hitting documentary, 3rd Degree, was finally aired on E-TV. Hidden cameras planted by a disgruntled employee revealed imported pork being professionally relabeled as “Halaal Veal,” kangaroo meat relabeled as something else and reject meat unfit for even animal consumption was re-classified as A-Grade. The Culprit: Orion Meats. Wrong, the bigger culprit: The Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) who was supposed to be on watch at the time. Continue reading →
